EXPANSION AT PORTSMOUTH MATERIALS RECOVERY FACILITY (MRF)

Winstanley & Co Ltd have followed on from their initial success in building the original plant and Phase 1 Upgrade at Portsmouth, and have now completed the Phase 2 Upgrade.

This new investment from Onyx Hampshire, part of the Onyx Environmental Group allows the MRF to process about 72,000 tonnes of dry recyclables per year.

Winstanley headed the project and was responsible for bringing together the necessary expertise to fulfil the project and built, in-house, much of the equipment used in the plant.

Rod Smith, Director, Winstanley & Co said "The expansion works have been a vital element to the infastructure investment programme in the County. We understand that the recycling campaign in Hampshire has been hugely successful. We were pleased to be a part of the project, which contributes to the growing demand for recycling".

In the 5 years since the MRF was first operational it has exceeded expectations and reached its operational capacity in this short time processing 271,000 tonnes of dry recyclables since it opened in 1998.

To cope with projected demand the plant needed to increase its capacity by 30,000 tonnes. Winstanley achieved the upgrade with very little disruption to the ongoing daily processing at the plant.

Winstanley look forward to continuing their association with Onyx and their Recycling Programme.
